     a. 1878 the nation’s first college daily newspaper, Yale Daily News, commenced publication.
      b. 1934 the first ski tow in the U.S. commenced operations.
      c. 1938 Iceland became the first western nation to legalize therapeutic abortions.
      d. 1985 USA for Africa recorded the hit single We Are the World to raise funds for famine relief in Ethiopia. 
      e. 1986 the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded shortly after takeoff, killing all seven astronauts aboard.
