25 year anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall

November 9 is World Freedom Day to mark the fall of the Berlin Wall
For 28 years this wall of shame, movement from East Berlin did forestall
People in East Germany kept voting with their feet, fleeing to the West
To escape the economic misery and the fears of late night Stasi arrest
Close to 4 million escaped on a one way ticket ride
The best and brightest among them heading to West Germany’s side
Freedom to express, freedom to one’s life control
A wall of shame for too many years took its toll
The Iron Curtain could not withstand the desires of people to be free
Within two years it fell after the Berlin Wall like a termite infested tree
